One of the things that I use to differentiate a good game versus a bad game is how quickly I am drawn into it and how fast time seems to melt away while I play it. The game was able to make this jaded old gamer jump in places and that is no short task. I absolutely love everything else about it. To be fair, that is the only gripe I have with the Resident Evil 3 remake. Nemesis is constantly Lurking in Resident Evil 3 When you add a limited five-hour playtime that sense that you just paid Sixty Dollars for a DLC really starts to bark loudly at you. The re-use of assets from Resident Evil 2 will also make you feel this. This is so true that at times during the game you will feel like you are playing a DLC and not a completely different game. The gameplay is buttery smooth and if you have already played the Resident Evil 2 remake your muscle memory should jump right in and take control without ever missing a beat. Incredibly modern graphics and going with an over the shoulder style instead of the original third-person perspective will make new players feel as if this game was conceived and made for the first time in 2020 and not 1999. The RemakeĪfter the massive success of the Resident Evil 2 remak e which I covered last spring, Capcom was smart to continue with the RE remake cycle with Resident Evil 3. Resident Evil 3 completes the Raccoon City story ark capping off a legendary trilogy while preceding the fan-favorite Resident Evil 4. The game was originally intended to help spin off new characters in the franchise and to add more of an action element to the series’ traditionally slower paced horror focused gameplay. The game was an instant classic, selling millions of copies worldwide. On September 22nd of 1999, fans of the Resident Evil series were treated to the third part of the highly beloved and praised franchise with Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. RE3's asymmetrical multiplayer spin-off pits four survivors against a trap-setting, zombie-spawning dungeon master, and you'll get to try it out for free come March 27th.Camcom releases the eagerly awaited remake to 1998’s Resident Evil 3on all consoles and platforms! Background If you clicked through that YouTube vid, you'll also have noted beta testing for Resident Evil: Resistance kicking off later this month. As I understand, things get real silly post RE:4, but this still helped a distant observer like me finally work out what the hell's going on in these games. He's different in that Mr X never had a flamethrower meat-hook for an arm.īeing 20 years since the last time RE3 popped up on PC, Capcom have put together this handy little catchup video explaining the story so far. He's sorta like Resident Evil 2's Mr X in that he's an unkillable brute stalking you through at every turn. Pretty vital, given the demo will have you square off against the Nemesis. It's all gone to shit in Raccoon City - nobody told the infected about self-isolation, so they're all crowding the streets, trying their damn best to stop series vet Jill Valentine and friends from escaping.įrom what we've seen in livestreamed footage, RE:3 is a bit more action-packed than its predecessor - with quick dodges and more liberal application of shotgun blasts. The RE3 demo lets you play through the opening sequence of one of RPS's most exciting games of 2020. Until then, though, Capcom are offering a good chunk of the game through a free demo on Steam. Resident Evil 3 will hit Steam in full on April 3rd. Take on the Nemesis, evade the walking dead - but just remember to wash your hands, yeah? With the RE3 remake's release just weeks away, Capcom have opened the gates to Racoon City a little early with today's free demo. Perhaps Resident Evil 3 is hitting too close to home right now - or perhaps, it's never been more timely. A deadly outbreak, broken quarantine, a malevolent pharmaceutical company and store shelves utterly devoid of toilet paper.
